Embossed Leaves FO

Pattern: Embossed Leaves Socks by Mona Schmidt
Source: Interweave Knits' Favorite Socks
Needles: US1
Yarn: Spinning Colors Fingering in Rustic

Look! An FO! I have finally finished a knitting project. I am so excited.

I started these in February for Dewey's KAL . Great pattern but I did do some modifications. For one, the pattern calls for you to cut the yarn after the heel flap is finished and then reattach to do the gusset. I didn't bother just made sure to remember that I started my gusset rounds in a different spot than the pattern says. The other modification wasn't really on purpose. :) Just a slight mistake on my first sock that I had to copy on the second so it is not noticeable.

Loving these even though they make my feet look huge! Maybe it is just the angle of the camera or perhaps the different toe? Who knows, but my feet look much larger than usual.

2 years old

Oh no. I completely missed the day that my blog turned two. It was March 6th.
I can't believe I have had it that long.

In honor of starting my third year, I bring you actual knitting content. Hooray!

I have been slowly but steadily working on my Embossed Leaves sock for Dewey's KAL.
I was hoping to have them done by now but unfortunately that has not been possible. No knitting mojo once again. Anyway, I have finished one sock which I have photographed to show you all that I have not given up completely. Here it is:

Isn't it lovely? I absolutely love the toe on this sock! So cute.

Please excuse the bare foot. Had to show off the pedicure. :) It is a little chilly, though. Needs the other sock!

The other sock has been cast on. In fact, I have the cuff finished and should be starting on the lace pattern tonight. Hopefully I get through at least two repeats. Wish me luck. :)

embossed leaves socks

My newest WIP is coming along nicely. The pattern is Embossed Leaves (Mona Schmidt) from Interweave's Favorite Socks. It isn't one of the patterns I said I was thinking about, but it seemed more appropriate for the KAL. Dewey's blog was(is) titled The Hidden Side of the Leaf. Perfect right?

The only thing I have done differently from the pattern is where to start on the gusset. The pattern calls for cutting the yarn after the heel flap and then picking up stitches on the right side of the heel. I decided to just pick up along the left so I didn't have to cut and rejoin. The only change.

Still have a bit of the foot left to knit and then it is on to the toe. It looks much different than my usual toe so I am excited to get to it.  I love lace patterned socks. They always seem to knit up much faster than plain stockinette ones. Do you get that same feeling?

(Steph, I am loving your yarn!)

winding away

christmas gift

I am absolutely in love with my Christmas gift that the hubby gave me. I used it for the first time tonight. I managed not to make a total mess of it but did forget to hold on to the end when I removed my lovely orange yarn cake. So, yeah, I lost my center pull. I will remember to hold on to it next time. I took a photo of the finished cake but with the sun having set it is not a very good one. I will have take another tomorrow.

This is the Spinning Colors yarn that I will be using for Dewey's KAL.

KAL decisions to make

I have decided to go with the yarn I just got from Steph for Dewey's KAL. I just absolutely love the color of this yarn.

new sock yarn

As far as the pattern goes I have some choices. One is to come up with my own. This would be a first for me, but I have an idea that I would love to try out.

Of course I could always go with a pattern that has been in my Ravelry queue for awhile:
Go With The Flow from the Interweave Knits book, Favorite Socks
or
Cookie's Monkey socks

Choices, choices.

Dewey's KAL

When Dewey passed away in November the book blogging community lost a wonderful friend. In celebration mini-challenges in her honor have been started. I am unable to join in on the Reading Challenge but thought this one was a perfect one to join.

I haven't decided yet on a project but believe me, there are many projects in my queue to choose from. I just got some great sock yarn in the mail from Steph's Spinning Colors shop, so socks are a great possibility.

If you knew Dewey and are interested in the challenge, click on the button and go sign in. There will be some great yarn prizes for participants.

My updates will be posted on my knitting blog, MariKnits. Come by and check out my progress.
