Tuesday Thingers

This week’s question: -LibraryThing’s Recently Added feature: do you look at it? Do you use it for ideas? Is there something listed there now that looks interesting to you? What have you added to your LT library recently?

You know, I hadn't really looked at the list before today. I just hit the refresh button and see a couple books that sound interesting. One that I have wanted to read for awhile now, The Memory Keeper's Daughter. The Orson Scott Card book, Lost Boys, I have never heard about before, but looks good.

Teaser Tuesdays

Grab your current read.
Let the book fall open to a random page.
Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.

You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
Please avoid spoilers!

book giveaway

An Advanced Reader's Copy of Any Given Doomsday is up for grabs on my reading blog. Leave me a comment here before Friday for a chance to win my extra copy.

Haunted Post

Naida has started this really fun Halloween themed "blog event" which I can't pass up. I love Halloween!

So, to start it off, this weeks post is about a TV event happening on Friday. Most Haunted Live from Gettysburg. Here is some info from the website:
Join the Most Haunted team on Friday, Oct. 10, for the first-ever live broadcast from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the most haunted town in America.

Starting at 8 p.m. ET, The investigative team will begin an extraordinary seven-hour LIVE paranormal investigation of some of the most historically significant locations and landmarks in and around Gettysburg.

For three long days in 1863, the South and the North faced off in the deadliest clash of the Civil War: The Battle of Gettysburg. Every two seconds a man was shot, the streets ran red with the blood of the dead, and nearly every dwelling served as a makeshift morgue or hospital.

Viewers at home will be able to take part in this interactive investigation by monitoring live webcams and communicating with the team via the message boards, text messaging and psychic art.

Join Yvette Fielding and the rest of the Most Haunted team as they scour the streets of Gettysburg in search of the spirits left behind.

Fun, history and scares all rolled into one show. It's seven hours, so be prepared with blankets, food and a pillow to hide behind. :)

First Giveaway

I was sent an extra copy of Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland which means I have an ARC to giveaway.

If you are interested, leave me a comment between now and Friday, October 10th.

Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon.com
Well, it has been Sunday for about an hour here. I took a nap earlier and now I am wide awake. I have been reading one of the library books I went and picked up today. Yesterday. Saturday. :)

So, I have four books checked out right now. Two being read.

I picked up Look at Me on my last trip and had to renew it. Not quite through with it. I like it but it is one of those books where you really want to take in what you reading. Not really the content, so much, but the actual writing. I have read one other book by Jennifer Egan, The Invisible Circus. I read it a long time ago. I remembered enjoying it which is why I picked up this one.

I have gotten myself hooked on the new HBO series True Blood. It has gotten better with each new episode. I wasn't sure about it after only seeing the first episode. Anyway, I found the first book in the series that the show is based on, Dead Until Dark. By Chapter Four it was like I had read all three episodes I had already seen. It is amazing how much the show follows this book. There are differences and some changes but for the most part it is dead on. I was thinking of not reading on for fear that I would ruin the show for myself, knowing what was coming next. That only lasted a few seconds. I read on. It is very hard to put this one down. New episode tonight, too. All vampire Sunday for me.

I mean, just look at the other book I picked up. You Suck! :)

I also picked up another book by Scott Westerfeld. I was looking for Specials but it seems to be forever unavailable. It is never there. I should put it on hold.

So, I have got lots of reading to do. I will also be starting a new book for the Classics Challenge that will count towards the RIP III Challenge, too. Can you guess? No, it has nothing to do with vampires. What would give you that idea? :)

* ARC of Any Given Doomsday is up for grabs. Leave me a comment here before Friday for a chance to win my extra copy.

the perks of being a wallflower- Book Review

The Perks of Being a Wallflower The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

"Dear Friend,
I am writing to you because she said you listen and understand and didn't try to sleep with that person at that party even though you could have."

A wonderful book of letters written by a teen in his first year of high school in 1991 (the same year I was a freshman) chronicling his attempts to "participate". This book was on the most challenged/banned list for 2007 because it deals with Homosexuality, is Sexually Explicit, uses Offensive Language, and is Unsuited to Age Group. I found it to be a beautiful story of survival, friendship and love. It was just as good during my second read through as it was when I read it back in 2000.

"So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I am still trying to figure out how that could be."

audiobooks

Do you listen to them?

I have not listened to any but I did just purchase two audiobooks off of iTunes.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens read by Jim Dale

This is on my list for the Classics Challenge and I love Jim Dale's narration on Pushing Daisies and I know he is loved for his work on the HP audiobooks. ( I can't bring myself to pay $35 for those.)

I also got a Doctor Who book. The Stone Rose. Why? Well, because I love Doctor Who and because it is narrated by David Tennant. That really is the only reason. Love his voice. And you get both his Doctor voice and his real Scottish accented voice. Yum.

Anyway. For both it was about $16. Not too bad. Hopefully, it was worth it.

Do ya'll listen to audiobooks? What do you like about them?

Am I gonna get hooked?

Socktoberfest!

I have decided to participate in all the sock fun this month by joining the TTL Mystery Sock KAL. There is a fun group over on a little site by the name of Ravelry. Ever heard of it? :) Fans of Through the Loops. Go, join. Knit a sock. Knit two even. There will be two patterns shared. One with cables, one without.

The first part, the cuff, was released yesterday. Here it is:

TTL Mystery sock Clue #1

I am thinking I need to go down a needle size. Not sure I like the openness of the stitches. Neat looking cuff, though, don't you think?

What, in your opinion, is the best book that you haven’t liked? Mind you, I don’t mean your most-hated book–oh, no. I mean the most accomplished, skilled, well-written, impressive book that you just simply didn’t like.

Wuthering Heights! I just could not make myself like this book no matter how well written it is. I know it is a favorite of many and I know it is a classic. I just didn't like it.
