Armchair BEA: Introduction

Hello Armchair BEA-ers! Welcome to MariReads.

I am Mari and I have been blogging for quite awhile now. I started with my knitting blog, MariKnits back in 2007. I used to share and review books I was reading once a week on there, but soon I was posting more about books than knitting so I decided to start MariReads. Most books reviewed back then were for challenges- Classics, New-Classics, 100 books in a year. I loved the community amongst Book Bloggers and was soon exclusively blogging about Books.

The last couple years have been a little slow for me around here. Lots of life changes- including having a child, moving from Austin, TX back to CA and adjusting to life at home after nine years of teaching. I am very happy to be back near our families, and being able to spend these first years at home with my little girl (who is almost 3) but it did limit how much reading, reviewing and posting I have been able to do. I am starting to get my groove back a bit. I am even hosting my very own reading challenge. Never done that before. :)

So, before I go, here is what I am currently reading:

I am so close to finishing Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn for book group.
and
The Lavender Garden by Lucinda Riley for review.

I am really looking forward to this event and meeting some new bloggers. Thanks for visiting!

Happy Reading!

  1. Hey there, Mari! Thanks for sharing. I'm such a novice compared to you, and am still on book challenges. Love them! Love lists! Really looking forward to sharing BEA with everyone. And while you may have slowed down your sharing with the public, I'm sure you're sharing your love of all things books with your little girl. Which is more important methinks :0)

  3. I completely understand how having a child impacts your reading/blogging time! :) All for good reason though. I imagine that once my son (currently 2) hits about 5 years old, I might get my reading life back. Haha.
    Nice to meet you!!

    1. My little one is almost 3, and it is definitely better than it was but so not back to how much I used to read before her.

Nice to meet you, too. :)

    1. It is a pretty crazy book. I must say, I wasn't much of a fan of either characters, but that twist sure through me for a loop.

  6. Ugh. I am so sorry all about the ad above. It seems there is some problem with the code. It looked fine last night when I went to bed. Now, not so much. Will see what I can do.

  7. Wow lots of changes in your life recently. I always wanted to live in CA one day. How is Gone Girl? I think that one's on my tbr. What did you teach? I went to college for El Ed but then decided not to pursue it later on.

    1. It is really quite good. Almost done. Can't wait to see how it ends.
I taught PreKindergarten. 4 and 5 year olds. Lots of fun but could be tough. I had some rough years.

  8. Wow, that's quite a lot of blogging! I meant to start my blog as a book & baking blog but I also got caught up in the book blogging community and the baking definitely took a backseat.

  12. It's great to meet another knitter! I'm not a frequent knitter; when a project catches my eye, that's when I'll grab my needles and yarn, but I do really enjoy it when I'm working on a piece. I especially love knitting lace.

I bought Gone Girl a few months ago and still have to read it. I did read Gillian Flynn's Dark Places and thought it was fantastic, so I have really high hopes for Gone Girl.
