A wonderful book of letters written by a teen in his first year of high school in 1991 (the same year I was a freshman) chronicling his attempts to "participate". This book was on the most challenged/banned list for 2007 because it deals with Homosexuality, is Sexually Explicit, uses Offensive Language, and is Unsuited to Age Group. I found it to be a beautiful story of survival, friendship and love. It was just as good during my second read through as it was when I read it back in 2000.
"So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I am still trying to figure out how that could be."

ReplyDeleteI loved this book; read it in college (when it first came out). I never could get into The Catcher in the Rye, but I figured it was a little like this, maybe. I also found this book kind of educational. How sheltered was I?--I'd never heard of magic brownies!
