Booking through Thursday

"Have you ever felt pressured to read something because ‘everyone else’ was reading it? Have you ever given in and read the book(s) in question or do you resist? If you are a reviewer, etc, do you feel it’s your duty to keep up on current trends?"

Just in the picture above I see a couple of books that I read because of the "pressure". The need to read what others are reading.

The Friday Night Knitting Club
Confessions of a Shopaholic

More recently...

Eat, Pray, Love

I usually read them to see what all the fuss is all about. It is a book. Hard to say no to reading a new book. It's usually a lot easier for me to avoid movies than books when it comes to this.

  1. Reading the blurb on the book cover helps me see whether or not it's my kind of book.

  2. I'm actually interested in The Friday Knitting Club, which I picked up at the store yesterday. Is it all hype?

  3. Yes, I've read books "everyone else was reading." Sometimes I'm curious about the buzz, and it's nice to be able to talk, critique, etc with other readers.

  4. I agree with SmilingSal - the book jacket or blup usually tells me if a book is something I might be interest in.

  5. I agree that avoiding movies is a lot easier. Not sure why though. Weird!

  6. I've heard of those ones before, enjoy your reading.

As far as reading books because everyone else is, sometimes if I see alot of other bloggers love a book, I'll pick up a copy too. But I have read books from Oprahs Book Club, just because they were picked, and then not liked them.
