I innocently went to today's Meetup and came home with 8 skeins of this yummy Liisu yarn. Merino and mohair combo. Very soft. Another member was selling off all her yarn from her online yarn shop since she is moving. She will be at the next meeting and so will I. :)
She has some lovely yarn.

I am going to use this batch for the clapotis, that everyone and anyone who knits has already done. This will be my first. I have just enough of this yarn to make a scarf sized one. It will be my project for the Anne of Green Gables Read and Knit Along that starts tomorrow.

I admit, though, I already cast on. It's very simple to knit while watching Van Helsing. :) The book will wait until tomorrow. I haven't finished my Dresden Files book yet.

is it christmas yet?

Pattern: Snowy Night Gansey Stocking by Lisa Carnahan
Source: Christmas Stockings: 18 Holiday treasures to Knit
Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca
Needles: US 6

I finshed the hubby's stocking the day after his birthday. He didn't seem to mind. He loved it, actually, and told me to go buy more yarn to make myself one. Yay! It was a pretty easy pattern and fun to knit such a big sock. The funny thing, it fit hubby's foot perfectly! Just a little wide. Now I know, if I ever do decide to make him a sock, there is no way I am going to use sport weight. That would take me forever. He wears a size 14 shoe! Worsted weight all the way for him.

BR hatPattern: Banana Republic Hat Knock off by metaphysical muse
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool EaseThick & Quick
Needles: US 8 and US 10.5

So last night I decided to start a hat with some yarn that has been sitting in my stash bin for about a year now. It was meant to be a pillow case for my couch but I never got around to making it. I found a hat pattern on Ravery that used the exact same yarn, even the same color. It is the Banana Republic Knock off. Hehe. It was actually very easy and fast to knit. It is pretty cute. I like it alot. I am thinking of gifting it this Christmas to my UT fan friend. She will appreciate the orange. I have a hat I made in the same yarn but in green that is way too large that I think I will frog and make into this hat instead for me. Green is more my color than orange, anyway.

happy birthday, sweetie!

It's the hubby's birthday today. We are going to dinner with friends. Sushi. Yummy.

For his gift, he got a lovely handmade Cristmas stocking, only slightly unfinished. :) And somewhere, in the mail is a cd of Punch the Clown, a ska band from our college town that we loved. The band broke up, around the time we were leaving Davis and we never did buy one of their cds while there. I was amazed to find them on Amazon! Anyway, I know he will be surprised.

Picture of the stocking to come...when it is finished. Hehe.

invincible

I had to share my love of this song with you all. Love, love, love them. This song is just amazing.

I haven't quite made it to that stocking, yet. :)

vampires and muse

This weekend has been less about knitting than even last week. Like the title, it has been all about vampires ( one especially. love.) and muse (love).

A friend gave me her three books of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. They were so good that I finished them all in the past week. I am completely in love with the characters in these books. OMG, if you have not read them. Read them. I know they are young adult fiction, but I had no problem getting sucked into the story at all. If you love vampire and werewolf stories, and romance and suspense, you will love this book. I can not wait until the next book. I think next fall. Ugh.

Also, this weekend, my hubby got home from his weeklong business trip. It has been nice spending some time with him this weekend, too.

So, basically, no knitting being done. Listening to a lot of Muse, though. Over and over, actually. Am off to the music store soon to see if I can find any of their older cd's on the used cd's rack. If not, I will be purchasing a lot of music off iTunes tonight.

Hubby's taking a nap, maybe I will work on his stocking a bit before he gets up.

I want, I want, I want

There is always something I am in desperate need of. Absolutely, no fail.

Unfortunately, I don't always have the means to get what I want. By that I mean... no cash.
I am a teacher, remember. Not much moola flowing flowing my way.
This is what is on my radar right now. I want to make this sweater and with this yarn. The number of skeins needed of this $9.10/skein yarn will cost me close to $80. $80 I don't have right now. Urg.

There is absolutely no way I could get the yarn for this right now. I will have to wait until I get paid and hope that there are still enough skeins out there of the oatmeal (Edit: oatmeal. wheat. whatever) for me to make this beautiful sweater when I do finally have the funds to purchase.

Jojo shares in my despair.

thoughts on spinning...

Charade-in progress

So, today I am going to a spinning class. I have never been before and am a bit nervous about it. I don't want to make a fool of myself in there. I at least have a friend going with me. Her first time, too. I really don't know what I am worried about. I just need to go, have fun and take lots of water.

I have a couple hours until I have to leave. I think I will work on my sock a bit. But what sock? My second 9to5 or the first Charade? Hmm. Decisions, decisions. :)

The charades are working out much better than the other pattern (that I can't remember how to spell). Kaiba-something or other. *shrug*
I am loving the yarn, the color, the pattern. All of it, really. The Tofutsies is great. Very soft. Pretty amazing, considering crab shells were used to make it. Cool, huh?

pics from the fest

ACL is all over with. Well, not quite. Bob Dillon is playing right now. We had to leave early to get the hubby to the airport on time. Oh well. We had a really great time. There were tons of people, it was really hot, but we did get to see a lot of good shows. Friday night was Queen's of the Stone Age and The Killers.

Saturday, we got there a little bit earlier and were able to catch Blue October. You can see the lead singer a bit in the big screen here. After them we saw a bit of the Arctic Monkeys and then moved over to another stage to get a good spot for Muse. Before they started we saw the end of Damien Rice's set. Muse was awesome! They put on a really great show.

Today was kind of a bust. We got a late start when our cab was a bit late. We saw only the last couple songs of Ben Kweller and then waited for Bloc Party to start. We ended up leaving their show early. I love Bloc Party on cd but they just weren't as good live. Kind of disappointing. I did get this really cool shot, though, of the stage reflected in hubby's sunglasses. Pretty cool, methinks. :)

All in all, a really great weekend. Can't wait for next year.

acl festival

I am off to the Austin City Limits festival in a few hours. Yay! The Killers are playing tonight. It is a three day event, so I will be out of the house all weekend. So many bands I want to see. Muse, Paolo Nutini, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party.

The White Stripes and Amy Winehouse were supposed to be playing, too, but they have both cancelled. Ugh. They were two I was really excited about seeing.

Anyway, I think my sock will be going with me, so hopefully it will get done by the end of Sunday.

Have a great weekend!!

(I wonder how it would look with a ribbed cuff, instead? Hmm?)

I will be casting on Charade instead, methinks. A little less frilly but stil an interesting pattern. Plus, it has a ribbed cuff.

My kind of sock.

frogged sock

I started Kaibashira last night using the Tofuties I bought last week. I started it using the Magic Loop method with US1 32' Addis. It was a bit awkward at first, but I got used to it as I continued. I will have to give it some time, see if I really like it.

Anyway, it is the sock that I am not too happy with. I am not fond of the edging. Very pretty, but a little too frilly for me. I really liked the sock in the picture but without a ribbed cuff these feel like they are going to fall right off. They are very loose even with going down a size in needles. Maybe I just have skinny ankles or calves.

I would much rather use this yarn on a sock I really like.

Oh well. You win some you loose some.

a blue band

Pattern: Calorimetry by Katherine Shoendorf, Knitty.com.
Needles: US 6 bamboo
Yarn: Wick, Knit One Crochet, Too

It is finished and it is quite nice. I liked the way the yarn holds the shape. It doesn't feel like it will get really loose like wool probably would. The Wick was a bit sticky on my bamboo needles, but not too bad where I wouldn't use it again. All in all, a lovely blue project. It will be coming with me to Big Sur in November. Perfect for a hike.

I am not really sure if I like the way it looks on my own head, though. I have a strange shaped head, I think. I may be gifting this, as well, for Christmas.

9to5 socks

9to5 Socks

Pattern:9 to 5 Socks by Nicole hinds
Needles: US1, on 2 circulars(Addis)
Yarn: KnitPicks Essential in grass

Actually, I am not quite finished with these. I am still working on the second sock. I am about a third of the way down the leg. I think these will be gifted this Christmas. Not sure to who, though. It is a really great pattern to work on. Easy to memorize, so good for tv watching or faculty meetings.

Anyway, I figured out a way to get my pics so I wanted to at least post one.

I have finished a calorimetry. I will share that one at a later time. Right now, I am going to play a bit on the new computer.

new computer

Hello all.

I am coming to you from the couch, in front of the tv, on my brand new macbook. Yay!
Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to upload my pictures to flickr using this computer. It can't seem to find the pics on my computer.

I need help.

Any Mac users? What am I doing wrong?

I have pics in iphoto of my finished sock and calorimetry that I would love to share with you, but until I figure this out or put on my pc downstairs...no pics.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

First Thursdsay

I went to HCW today for their First Thursday Sale and picked up a few things. A couple more skeins of Berroco Ultra Alpaca, but in red for the hubby's Christmas stocking he has been asking for.

The sock yarn was 20% off so I got some Tofutsies by SWTC ( I had been wanting to try out their yarn for awhile)and I picked up a pair of 32in Addi's to try Magic Loop on my next pair of socks.
Needles were 20% off as well.

All in all a pretty good haul.

I had a tasty dinner at Guero's ,too. And a yummy Paloma.

a few things to peruse

Here is a new blog that may interest some of you. Especially if you want to hear some original and actually, really good music. Go to onesongperweek and take a listen. You will be pleasantly surprised. I promise.

Magknits September issue is now out and has some cute patterns. I really want to make Skirtsicle for my niece. It would make a great Christmas gift.

Also, KnitBlue is a really cool idea. A KAL for Democrats! Check it out if you haven't already.

Okay, that is all for now. It's almost 1am. I need to go to bed. I was actually downtown with the hubby and friends until about an hour ago when we got home. Played some darts, watched the UT game, and had a few beers. Fun, fun.

Nighty night.

***Sunday afternoon addition: Anne of Green Gables Read and Knit Along! It starts in October. Ooh, I can't wait. This is one of my favorite series since I was a preteen I think. I already have all the books so I am definitely signing up for this one!***
